Jian Du obtained his PhD in 2017 from Nanjing University and is currently an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Health Data Science, Peking University. With a multidisciplinary background in Biomedical Informatics and Library and Information Science, he previously served as a research scientist at the Institute of Medical Information, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. His current research interests include natural language processing, knowledge graphs, and clinical epidemiology in cardiovascular-related chronic diseases. Since 2020, he has led the Computable Biomedical Knowledge Group, focusing on the construction and application of biomedical knowledge graphs. His work includes 1) extracting causal knowledge through large-scale text mining from biomedical literature and clinical trial reports, and 2) leveraging Large Language Models and Biomedical Ontologies to facilitate the construction and application of Directed Acyclic Graphs. These causal knowledge graphs are used to enhance the design and interpretation of in observational health data research. Dr. Du is an editorial board member of Health Data Science and BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making. He has published over 30 papers in leading journals, including JAMIA, Scientific Data, Information Processing and Management, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, and Health Research Policy and Systems.
