Jinpeng , Professor, Doctoral Supervisor; New Cornerstone Investigator, Recipient of Continuous Funding for National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in the field of pharmacology. Prof. Sun serves as the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Kidney Pharmacology Professional Committee, Vice Chairman of the Biochemical and Molecular Pharmacology Professional Committee, Vice Chairman of the Receptor and Ion Channel Professional Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Pathophysiological Society, among others. Prof. Sun obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the United States and conducted research on GPCR pharmacology under the guidance of GPCR expert Robert J. Lefkowitz (Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry in 2012). Prof. Sun returned to China in 2011 as a full-time professor, focusing on ligand discovery, functional research and drug development of G protein-coupled receptors. His research has elucidated the regulatory mechanisms underlying series of endogenous ligands and their physiological functions on GPCRs, including: (1) uncovering the GPCRs involved in perceiving auditory and balance functions; (2) discovering a subfamily of GPCR that recognize steroid hormones; (3) identifying the GPCR recognizing ceramide and new potential targets for important diseases such as Type 1 diabetes (olfr109 perceives InsB 9:23, GPR132), atopic dermatitis, cardiovascular diseases (LGR4 senses Nidogen, S1PR1 senses 15-HEPE), and so on; Prof. Sun has also contributed to the developing GPCR bias signaling theory, including innovatively proposing the flute model of receptor phosphorylation and the mechanism of polyproline dock sorting, and has developed a series of small molecule and peptide drugs targeting GPCRs. As the corresponding author, Prof. Sun has published more than 90 articles in SCI-indexed journals, such as Nature (×9), Science (×2, one cover article), Cell (×4, one cover article), Nature Metabolism (2 articles), Cell Metabolism (2 articles), Nat Chem Biol (×3), Cell Research (×2), PNAS (×6), Nat Commun (×9), among which 8 articles have been specially recommended by Faculty1000, and 7 articles have received special reviews. Prof. Sun has been awarded the National Innovation Award (2023), the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Award (2022), the 17th China Pharmaceutical Development Award for Clinical Medicine Research (2024), the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress News of China selected by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (2023), and the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in Chinese Colleges and Universities (2023).
